A spiritual crisis, also known as a spiritual emergency, is a profound psychological and spiritual experience that can be triggered by a variety of factors, such as a major life change, trauma, or intense meditation or spiritual practice. It is a period of intense questioning and disorientation, during which an individual's beliefs, values, and sense of self may be challenged or called into question.

A spiritual crisis can manifest in a variety of ways, such as intense feelings of anxiety, depression, or despair, a feeling of being disconnected from one's self or the world, or a sense of being overwhelmed by spiritual experiences or insights. Some individuals may also experience physical symptoms, such as headaches, insomnia, or changes in appetite. Many individuals who experience a spiritual crisis may seek out spiritual or religious guidance, but traditional approaches may not always be effective. In some cases, psychotherapy or other forms of mental health treatment may be necessary to help individuals work through the crisis and integrate their experiences into their lives in a healthy way.

It is important to note that a spiritual crisis is not necessarily a sign of mental illness or instability. Rather, it can be seen as a natural part of the spiritual journey: a period of growth and transformation that can ultimately lead to greater understanding and wisdom. With the right support and guidance, individuals can emerge from a spiritual crisis feeling stronger, more connected, and more aligned with their true selves. A spiritual crisis/spiritual emergency may bring on symptoms that require medical evaluation for treatment and/or symptoms that a Spiritual Coach or Mental Health professional can assist you in understanding. Please feel welcome to contact Dr. LeAnn if you believe that you could use guidance during this time of transformation. 1- (530) 676-3847 or email LeAnn@LeAnnLMFT.com
